Life not on the road

One of my several motivations for starting this collection, similar to the rationale of many who write, was to better remember and reflect upon events past. I’ve discovered it’s a lot easier and more entertaining to do so when I’m reminiscing about a trip than when I’m writing about my week of doing performance reviews for work or my weekend cleaning the gutters.

Neither of those are so bad, really. At some point I’ll try to jot some thoughts on my transition from engineering to management, but so far, I’m enjoying the switch, and writing performance reviews, while not exactly fun, isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I actually prefer that to cleaning the gutters - but that’s probably because I’ve generally neglected most house chores in the year since I bought the house, and, as a result, the gutters were a damn mess. I was determined not to become one of those people whose sole reason for existence is to maintain his/her house. I’m doing a little too well - Saturday’s trip to Home Depot to buy a ladder was approximately the third time I’ve been there in the last year.

Other notables from the past week include:

  • An electrifying WHL game 7 first round playoff victory by the T-Birds over Kelowna. Seattle is now tied 1-1 in their second round series with Tri-Cities - likely going to game three on Tuesday
  • Happy Hour at Collins Pub on Friday
  • Cleaning gutters yesterday
  • Vegging yesterday (in addition to cleaning gutters)
  • Birthday party at Nectar last night
  • Second birthday party with some of Meagan’s med school friends in the U district - this party was a trip actually. The festivities included a game of Beirut involving some first year MD/PhD students, some undergrads trying to score some “Endo”, a bonfire, Smores, a loud midnight performance by the neighbor’s band, some plants growing outside in a discarded bathtub, and an interesting shopping list. All in all a good time.
  • Going to church this morning - another story…
  • Coffee at CafĂ© Allegro
  • Cleaning more gutters this afternoon
  • Waxing my snowboard
  • Writing this

Normal life ain’t so bad.

Well, back to it - taxes, laundry, finishing reviews…maybe I would rather be traveling.
