El Cuatro de Snowboarding

Sunday, with sunny weather and a Cinco de Mayo vibe in the air, was a fun day to play on the mountain and cap off the 2007-8 season at Alpental. Well, maybe - with the epic snowbase still hanging around, Alpental will be open for one more weekend.

In any case, Matt, Ming, and I rolled up to the hill around 11:30 and it was more packed than I anticipated - apparently we weren’t the only ones with spring skiing in mind. No worries though - it was awesome hanging out in the sun, cruising in the soft, mushy snow (”sloppy but fun”) and taking several breaks to crack open one of the Tecates we picked up on the way.

Lots of great costumes were on display - the winner had to be the cocktail waiter - that he didn’t get tired skiing in his pose is impressive. Lots of other Mexican-themed costumes, often with holsters for alcohol.

We finished up with a little apres on the patio.

Hungry, we headed back to pick up some food for a cookout at my place. Meagan, Chelsea, and JJ (on injured reserve) joined the ski crew and I finally had a chance to inaugurate the outdoor furniture I purchased immediately before Seattle’s spring rains commenced. We bought a little too much meat (unthinkable for this crowd), but it was great to relax outside with friends after a chill day on the hill - the t-bones, ribeyes, salmon, chicken, asparagus, pepper salad, and several bottles of wine didn’t hurt.

Not a bad way to spend a Sunday in May.
