Tips For Biking
Some things I’ve learned recently that I thought I would pass on:
- Wear sunscreen, especially on sunny days.
- Zip shut the accessory bag on your seat to prevent losing your credit card, driver’s license, and twenty bucks that were previously in seat bag before it was opened to retrieve cell phone to look up a route on Google maps.
Aside from the fallout of #2 (credit card canceled, $20 poorer, still praying that my DL with the ghetto photo I love turns up somewhere), the weekend has been treating me nicely. The weather has been much nicer than was originally forecast, with mostly clear sunny skies and approximately 75ยบ weather.
Yesterday, I finished cleaning gutters that I started a month of two ago - this task will likely be the next one I subcontract out, especially after I nearly slipped on the steeper than anticipated roof - not smart. After that, I headed out to Dan’s house for what was intended to be a bike ride, but which ended up being a bike maintenance session - Dan graciously installed my new handlebars and stem which have been lingering in the garage for a few months. Not shockingly, the install took slightly longer than the twenty minutes that Dan forecast, but the bike is again in primo shape (except for the chain which needs replacing).
After the bike upgrade, Meagan and I headed downtown to do some suit and ring shopping. I now have an outfit for the wedding, which happily results in another line item being crossed off of the July todo list. No rings yet.
Saturday night, Dan and Gail came over for an almost late enough to be Spanish cookout. It was a perfect night for eating outdoors, and just when Meagan had the genius idea of bringing some candles outside (it was about 10 when I finally got done cooking), it started raining…oh well, we ate inside, which was equally nice.
Today, after having a lazy breakfast in, I headed out for a road ride around south Lake Union. The forty-five miles was decidedly easier than my previous weekend’s road ride, partially because I have a few more miles under my belt, partially because I wasn’t as famished.
Upon return, I met Meagan at a coffee shop where she’s studying for finals to wrap up first year of school, and then proceeded to retrace my bike route in the car in an attempt to find the items I dropped. No luck.
Afterwards, I headed to Emmett and Maryleen’s for a chill Sunday night BBQ. After dinner, I played a little Rock Band, which I am terrible at, but I am happy to say that I can now at least make it through several songs as a drummer on easy. Medium destroys me.
Plan for Memorial Day - catch up on other errands, ride Tiger mountain with Dan, take care of some wedding stuff (ring maybe), shop for some camera equipment (need a tripod), clean the one remaining gutter. I never accomplish everything or even close to everything on my weekend todo list, but I like being ambitious.
