New England Trip Day Three: Vermont

[Previous Day 2 Report]

[Pictures]

Despite the late bedtime and the likelihood that my body was still on west coast time, I forced myself out of bed quite early, at around 6:45 am, so I could explore the grounds before we needed to depart for our later appointments that day. Plus I wanted to take some pictures, and justify that I lugged my camera on the trip.

Fortunately there was still some decent morning light for pictures, and daylight confirmed that this place would be perfect for the wedding. We really wanted a scenic place which could serve as a center of activity for the weekend, especially given the distance that many of our friends and family would be traveling and to hopefully have a little more time than just the ceremony to spend with everyone. These have been some of our favorite weddings to attend, and the Mountain View Farm had everything we wanted.

I strolled around the grounds, checking out the barns, the gardens, the trails, the many scenic views, and the farm animals. Apparently, the farm is a home for “retired” farm animals! Very cool.

Running low on time, I headed back to our room, and we got ready to leave. On the way out, we met the owner of the Inn, Marilyn, who was wonderful to us and glad that we found a place that suited us well. We then hopped in the car and drove to Montpelier.

In Montpelier, we met the officiant for our wedding at Brioche, an awesome bakery/coffeeshop that is run by the New England Culinary Institute. We were very happy with Reverend Michael based on our earlier phone conversations, and it was nice to finally meet him in person. We had a great chat and know that he’ll help make for a few less things to worry about in July.

After Michael left, we returned to the car and headed for the forty-five minute drive back to Burlington. Meagan dropped me off at the airport, we kissed goodbye, and Meagan headed to Middlebury for her college reunion.

It was too brief of a trip - I wish I had more time in each town to explore a bit more. Despite going to school in New Hampshire for four years, I haven’t spent much time in Vermont - now I have a list of towns that I want to check out more. But, we got a lot done in the short time we were there and left confident that we chose some wonderful folks to help with and a great place for our wedding.
