The MSG 150
Today was an unexpectedly fun day.
I originally had plans to meet up with my friend Adam for lunch. How I know Adam is a somewhat funny story. When I took a few months off to live in Whistler a few years ago, I posted an ad at work to see if anyone knew people looking to sublet an apartment. Someone forwarded this to Adam, who would soon be interning with another group for almost exactly the time that I would be away.
It turned out Adam was also a big skier and former ski racing coach and thus was looking forward to coming up to Whistler a lot. Unfortunately he didn’t have a car - but Meagan coincidentally did have a car and didn’t especially enjoy doing the five hour Sea to Sky highway adventure solo (something I didn’t fully realize at the time and now in retrospect really appreciate how often she made the journey). In any case, Meagan and Adam formed a happy ski driving partnership - and brought my mail too, which was nice.
Shortly before lunchtime, though, I got a text from my friend Emmett asking me if I wanted to join him for his next MSG 150 adventure at Shanghai Garden. If you haven’t heard of MSG 150, live in Seattle, and like Asian food - you need to check out their blog - it’s easily one of Seattle’s best food blogs and definitely the best one focused on the International District. Their mission is to chronicle all of the restaurants, good or bad, in the ID - read more in their original post.
I’d been wanting to tag along for some time, and since they are wrapping up the list of restaurants in the original DLZ (designated lunch zone), I couldn’t pass up the opportunity and brought Adam along for the ride. I’ll save my official review for the MSG 150 site when they post the aggregate review, but I was quite happy with the meal, and more happy to catch up with Emmett and meet the rest of the MSG 150 crew.
Afterward, Adam and I grabbed bubble tea across the street. It was fun to hear about his business plans and compare travel stories.
It was a nice start to the week.
