I Hate Entourage
Not the HBO show, but the crappy Microsoft email/calendaring program for the Mac. It’s more kludgy than Outlook but without the mainstream audience that has beaten Outlook into some level of acceptable functionality.
I mostly use Thunderbird for email but use Entourage to manage meetings with our company Exchange server.
My #1 gripe: when setting up an appointment, if you change a field that causes a warning on the event, the UI focus goes completely away from what you were editing.
For example, I just tried to set up an appointment, and the default time is for something relatively soon (10:30 am). I want the appointment to be at 4:30 pm, so I tab over to the hour field (10) and change it to what I want it to be (4). This makes the current view of the appointment to be today at 4:30 am, which Entourage oh so kindly begs to inform me is in the past. So much so that it displays a warning on the dialog and shifts focus away from the hour field.
In doing so, when I hit tab twice in an attempt to toggle “am” to “pm”, it is in vain.
I hate when a UI tries to be helpful, but its efforts are quite the opposite. I also hate that Entourage can’t seem to keep up with event changes made on the server.
I can’t wait for Snow Leopard to be released – I am hoping that iCal integration with Exchange will make my use of Entourage completely obsolete.
